About Our 7th Grade Math Worksheets
Here’s what you need to know about 7th grade math and the worksheets to learn the topics.

First of all, it’s not so much about age or grade level as it is about math readiness. This is essentially the middle of middle school, and it is time to move beyond the elementary topics of arithmetic. To be prepared for middle school, one needs to have solid arithmetic skills. We are talking about being able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide small numbers.

Don’t be concerned over complicated things such as long division. Honestly, a calculator or computer can do the heavy lifting of making calculations for big numbers. Your learner needs to know their multiplication tables for numbers from, say, zero to twelve, and they need to understand that division is really just multiplication done backwards.

Our 7th grade math worksheets in PDF format pick up exactly at this point. If your learner understands arithmetic as described above, then they are ready to move onto the next level in math. These topics are commonly referred to as Pre-Algebra.

Pre-Algebra Readiness
The below worksheets in PDF format cover the pre-algebra that you need to know to move on to algebra. The next courses in the sequence are typically known as Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. So, at the 7th grade level, many learners are ready to embark on a multi-year journey into learning algebra.

It’s important take your time and not rush through these 7th grade math topics. They are going to set the foundation for perhaps many years of school ahead. So, for example, if you notice that your learner is struggling on a pre-algebra problem because it takes them several minutes to figure out how much is seven times three… As a parent, it is your responsibility to pump the brakes and go back to those elementary multiplication tables. Put in 20 minutes of practice on every school day until they know it. Really.

For 7th graders that have already mastered the pre-algebra skills, it is totally appropriate to be moving on the more advanced topics. They could already be ready for the 8th grade math of Algebra 1 or the 9th grade math of Algebra 2

7th grade math worksheets pdf download

The 7th grade math worksheets are in PDF format. They are printer friendly, black and white, and have plenty of space for working out problems by hand. We strongly recommend that learners print and write on the worksheets to develop the muscle memory and hand-eye coordination necessary for approaching higher-level math.

The worksheets are in 4 files known as Problem Sets 1-4. There is more information here describing the content of each worksheet

Unfortunately, nobody really cares about getting the right answer to a math problem. Seriously.

The purpose of pre-algebra is to learn how to write down math correctly. By correctly, we mean that you write down the steps showing how you get from the given information to the answer. Again it’s all about the steps in getting it to the answer. The idea is that somebody could look at your work, see what steps that you took, and decide if they are the correct steps. It’s totally inappropriate to just write down answers for a pre-algebra problem, regardless of whether they are correct or incorrect.

So, as a parent, take a look at what your learner has produced on paper. If they are just writing down an answer, they need to start over again from scratch. With the understanding that the purpose of pre-algebra is to show the steps, not the answer.

If the learner doesn’t understand what steps they should be writing down, consider this a good thing. You’ve just identified the exact topic that they need to learn in order to move forward. That’s awesome, because it’s the only way that learning actually happens. If you need help, you can find extremely detailed Solutions in video format for all of the problems by clicking here
